Educational Programming for LGBTQ Issues
One Colorado Education Fund is our 501(c)(3) sister organization. Although both One Colorado and One Colorado Education Fund share a mission to secure protections and opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Coloradans and our families, the organizations differ in their work.
Through the Education Fund, we provide educational programming on LGBTQ issues, conduct research to understand public opinion, mobilize a community of LGBTQ people and straight allies, and develop campaigns to build public support for fairness and equality.
One Colorado’s work is in the following priority areas:
Colorado has passed a number of critical protections for LGBTQ Coloradans including protection from discrimination in places of employment, public accommodations, and housing. With civil unions and marriage, Colorado couples have the legal protections they need to take care of their families. Our work ensures these protections remain in place for all Coloradans, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
We believe that every student in Colorado has a right to a safe and inclusive school that allows them to fully participate in all activities. Our work focuses on supporting gay-straight alliances and training LGBTQ and allied students to be leaders in their school.
Focusing on Health
Our health policy work is focused on access and affordability of healthcare for LGBTQ Coloradans so they can get the services they need to live healthy lives. By improving data collection and removing barriers for LGBTQ people in accessing health care, One Colorado focuses on improving the experience of LGBTQ patients within the healthcare system.
As we’ve seen significant victories for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and queer Coloradans, we know that transgender Coloradans still face unacceptable barriers in living as their authentic selves. That’s why One Colorado’s work is focused on changing the conversation about transgender Coloradans through public education and advocacy.
