Emmett Blaney

Emmett Blaney is a current University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work student, interning at One Colorado during his foundation year. His desire to serve the LGBTQ+ community stems from his lived experience as a queer trans person growing up in rural Wyoming.

He attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon during his undergraduate career and received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. His previous experience involves working with Willamette’s Department of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and for the State of Oregon’s Stabilization and Crisis Unit at a residential crisis home for young adults.

Emmett is passionate about supporting the rural LGBTQ+ community, celebrating trans joy, and engaging in direct action. His academic pride and joy is his thesis from undergrad, titled “Gender Euphoria and Trans liberation: Rejecting the medical, embracing the aspirational.”

During Emmett’s spare time, he enjoys taking naps, eating vegan sushi, and thinking about reading books but never managing to actually start reading one.
