One Colorado, the state's leading advocacy organization for LGBTQ Coloradans and their families, released the following statement regarding the trial of the Minneapolis police officer who murdered George Floyd:
As the prosecution rests its case today in the trial of Derek Chauvin, we want to send a reminder that George Floyd was a father, a son, a brother, a partner, a community member, and a Black man murdered by a white police officer who was not in danger. Like so many other Black men who lost their lives to police violence, Mr. Floyd did not deserve to die. No matter the outcome of the trial, justice will not be served until the racist structures that perpetuate police killings like that of George Floyd, Daunte Wright, Breonna Taylor and so many others are dismantled. As an organization dedicated to advancing equality, One Colorado commits to increase efforts and work more directly in fighting against racial injustice and police brutality in every form. Not another child, parent, sibling, or community member should have to watch their loved one die at the hands of a police officer.
