U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall support the freedom to marry
While support for civil unions is growing here at home in Colorado, we’re also seeing incredible support for marriage for same-sex couples from our Senators in Washington, DC.U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall are joining a growing number of Senators in urging the Democratic Party to adopt a plank in support of the freedom to marry in the 2012 national platform. Both Senators — who have long been ardent supporters of LGBT equality — have signed on to this letter to party leadership:The Democratic Party supports the full inclusion of all families in the life of our nation, with equal respect, responsibility, and protection under the law, including the freedom to marry. Government has no business putting barriers in the path of people seeking to care for their family members, particularly in challenging economic times. We support the Respect for Marriage Act and the overturning of the federal so-called “Defense of Marriage Act,” and oppose discriminatory constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny the freedom to marry to loving and committed same-sex couples. We applaud both Senator Bennet and Senator Udall for continuing their courageous support for marriage for all Colorado families. Their unwavering commitment to ensuring that LGBT people have equal protection under the law is nothing short of inspirational!Join us in thanking our Senators for their leadership and support.
